Short Rotational Molding History
Over the years, you have been able to witness a great transformation in the Custom Rotational Molding industry. At one point, you had literally hundreds of molders, who were all scrambling for a small handful of customers, as the ingenuity and innovations had not began taking shape in the Custom Rotational Molding Industry. While respectable shops provided high quality products at fair and competitive prices, you would have unscrupulous vendors who would sneak into competitors facilities thru lies and deciet of potentially becoming a customer. You also had a number of companies who did not put their customers best interet at heart, therefore pulling the "bait and switch", running wide spec and off grade materials. Telling you that your product was made from "X" when it was generally manufactured from some off grade, wide spec variant of "Y". This not only cost a lot of companies their businesses and customer base due to failures in the field, but opened up a number of product liablitity suits and helped closed the doors on a number of unethical Rotational Molding Companies and suppliers.
A number of these companies struggled to stay afloat thru the 80's and 90's, as they found themselves involved in projects where someone convinced them that they could make profits by producing products at a loss- just operate on cash flow. Only shortly later to find out that the resin manufacturers and the freight companies were the only 2 entities who profited any money on these deals. Many of these molders started operating in "panic" mode, thus going after whatever jobs they could find, for whatever margin they could get, just to keep the lights on and payrolls met. So of course thru attrition and businessmen who could not adapt to modern times, today we have approximately less than 85 rotational molding "operations" in the United States.
